About ODLAA

ODLAA connects professionals in order to share experiences and disseminate information with respect to open and distance learning. Our members come from all educational sectors plus commercial training providers and training units in the corporate sector. They are involved in management, administration, design, development, research and teaching in multiple modes that may best be described as 'outside the traditional classroom'.

ODLAA is a non-profit organisation managed by an elected Executive Committee of members who donate their time to conduct the business of the association.

Our aims

The Association aims to:

  • advance the practice and study of distance education in Australia;
  • foster communication between distance educators; and
  • maintain and extend links with other national and international associations with related aims and objectives.

Who should join?

ODLAA will be of interest to:

  • individuals involved or interested in open, flexible, distributed, distance and e-learning, education and training; and
  • students and other clients of open, flexible and distance learning, education and training programmes.

What does ODLAA provide?

A national voice

Through the Executive, members respond to government initiatives and published directions as well as lobbying for particular needs globally and nationally.

Other publications

Professional development events

ODLAA frequently arranges or supports professional development events in many locations across Australia and is looking to extend the number of electronic and online professional development events. Some events are restricted to ODLAA members.

See the News and Events page for forthcoming ODLAA events, national events and global events, and the Activities page for information on past events.

ODLAA Awards

ODLAA recognizes excellence in the field through a series of up to five awards. The awards are presented biennially at the ODLAA Conference. The two main categories are:

  • Excellent Practice in Open, Flexible and Distance Learning, Education and Training;
  • Excellence in Research in Open, Flexible and Distance Learning, Education and Training.

Details are available from the Awards page.

ODLAA and the wider open learning community

ODLAA has a strong commitment to working with organisations that share similar goals. One way we can do this is to make our members aware of the activities of other bodies:

  • Websites
  • Mailout facilities
    • For a small charge printed materials about conferences, etc can be distributed with our member newsletter.
  • Collaborative arrangements
    • ODLAA has arrangements in place with sister professional associations to share information and collaborate in particular activities. The Secretary is the first point of contact for any other associations wishing to enter into collaborative arrangements.

NOTE: It is ODLAA policy not to supply our membership mailing list to other organisations. Requests to circulate materials to members can be made to the Secretary.
